Leaky Gut Syndrome

This is the condition where the walls of the gut(intestines) are excessively permeable.   This allows incompletely digested foods to enter the blood stream from the gut.   These food particles can cause:

  • allergic reactions (i.e. headache, sinus problems, muscle/joint aches, almost anything)
  • liver problems (i.e. anger, depression, moodiness, menstrual problems)

Leaky gut syndrome is very common.  The causes are unknown but there are some theories:

  • antibiotics upset the healthy balance of bacteria in the gut
  • food sensitivities (such as to cow's milk) causes an initial deterioration of the gut leading to more deterioration and more food sensitivities

The treatments are:

  • Work toward maintaining a healthy balance of flora and fauna in the gut.
  • Eliminate food sensitivities.

Supplements that may be useful are:

  • acidophilous - Primadopholus by Natures Way is a pretty good one.
  • Seacure - nourishes the lining of the gut
  • Glutamine can help repair the lining
